Hi Evan — Really enjoy your blog. I found out a few months ago that I have herpes. I have gone through “the conversation” a million times in my mind. I have seen men post on various dating sites where they come right out on their profile stating they have herpes. And before I found out about my little gem, I would immediately think, “not in my backyard”.
I think that is a TMI on a profile. I thought that if I meet someone, and there seems to be some sort of vibe, I would have the talk pretty quickly, possibly even the first date. I control it with medication, but no matter how you slice it, it is what it is. There are “herpes sites” but they kind of creep me out at this point. What are your thoughts? Is there a “right time or wrong time” to have this discussion?

Female doctors often have a much harder time than other women when it comes to finding a great man to marry. By the time you doctors have the time to date seriously, you are usually close to thirty, and some of you close to forty years old. This timing issue can also limit the pool of available men to date.
Many men feel insecure around you: You have challenged yourself, pushed the limits of your academic potential, and made an incredible difference in the lives of thousands of people with serious disease. You have the compassion to heal and the intelligence and skill to help the neediest people. They will be proud to have found you and will do whatever it takes to keep you happy.
Smile and Be Friendly: I have attended many medical meetings and pharmaceutical dinners. The good news about medical conferences is that many of them are male dominated excellent ratio for you women! Some of the meetings are so incredibly dull that men will daydream about women and sex. On a couple of occasions some of the male attendees will ask me about one of the single female doctors at the meeting: What is her deal?
I leave the two of them alone to connect, and I watch her body language.

I opened my eyes one last time to tell my husband I would be OK, and then lost consciousness, not to wake up for weeks. These are viruses that humans acquire through contact with rodent urine, saliva or feces. Jolissa likely caught the virus when she cleaned out the family trailer in the spring for a camping trip. What began as extreme fatigue that she associated with being a new mom progressed into total exhaustion, nausea and fever. Too weak to hold her baby, Jolissa drove herself to the hospital in Fort Vermillion, Alta.
By the time she was flown to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton with a team of doctors, she was told there was only a 20 per cent chance she would live. When one of these doctors, Dr. I thought about my own family. It was a traumatic experience — I will always remember. As researchers in intensive care , we have found that the sharing of stories brings humanity into the daily business of providing care. It also has the potential to transform health-care policy and delivery. Rethinking patient-oriented care Opportunities to share stories about care, in settings away from the hospital, serve to bridge the gap between the experiences of patients and those of doctors and nurses.
The 21st century re-orientation of health care towards patient-centered care — respectful and responsive to individual patient preferences , needs and values — involves listening to, and integrating, patient perspectives. Rarely are there opportunities for former patients, family members and clinicians to meet face-to-face in public and have candid conversations about how to improve the giving and receiving of hospital care.

Acthar Gel — a drug best known for treating a rare infant seizure disorder — received money or other perks from the drugmakers, according to a CNN analysis of publicly identified prescribers. Mallinckrodt purchased Questcor in At about the same time, Medicare spending on Acthar rose dramatically — more than tenfold over six years.
Much of the rise in Medicare spending coincided with a marketing push by Mallinckrodt to target adults, especially seniors, after it purchased Acthar’s previous manufacturer, Questcor, in , according to company documents CNN has reviewed. On Friday, a separate study of Acthar payments and prescribing patterns found results similar to CNN’s analysis. The authors of that study, published in JAMA Network Open , said their findings “suggest financial conflicts of interest may be driving the use of [Acthar] in the Medicare program.
Acthar is best known for treating babies with infantile spasms, a rare and catastrophic form of epilepsy. Hartung, an associate professor at Oregon State’s College of Pharmacy, said he found it troubling the drug is being marketed in adult medicine, with taxpayers footing the bill for hundreds of millions of dollars.
Mallinckrodt’s recent push in the fields of rheumatology, nephrology and multiple sclerosis, he said, was the result of the drugmaker’s “aggressive marketing for a number of conditions that, while having an FDA indication, are poorly supported by the medical evidence. However, some doctors who prescribed Acthar in adult medicine and received money from Mallinckrodt told CNN they used Acthar only after steroids and other treatments failed.
While Acthar is not a steroid, it replicates some of its anti-inflammatory benefits. Over a course of treatment, those figures get even more dramatic: The findings in Friday’s study, which focused on Medicare claims and payment data, appeared to back up much of CNN’s data analysis, which looked at Medicare claims for — the latest year for which data is available — and payments dating back to , the first year for which those numbers are available.
In response to questions from CNN about its findings, Mallinckrodt issued a statement in which it strongly defended its payments to doctors:

A panel of experts, chaired by former Liberal Democrat MP Dr Julian Huppert, said the NHS was letting the digital revolution pass it by, forcing medics to find their own “technical fixes”. The report also revealed that the NHS is the world’s largest purchaser of fax machines, described by the authors as a “dubious title” to hold. The digital revolution has largely bypassed the NHS, which, in , still retains the dubious title of being the world’s largest purchaser of fax machines On Monday, the Information Commissioner’s Office ICO ruled that the NHS Trust “failed” to comply with data protection law when it provided data on 1.

To the television scriptwriters, it must have seemed just another torrid soap opera romance. And the tale of handsome young doctor Matt Parker’s fling with his beautiful but unstable patient certainly kept Holby City viewers glued to the screen. But when Kathy Haq, a nurse from Sunderland, saw it she was moved to fury. What horrified her was the dismayed reaction of some fans on the BBC drama’s website when Parker ended the affair: The public have got to know that this is just not allowed.
It also revived painful memories. She was a year-old trainee nurse when, suffering from depression, she was referred to a psychiatrist called William Kerr. In the privacy of the consulting room, she says, the doctor exposed himself to her, saying that ‘this is what you need’. What is shocking about the abuse that she went on decades later to describe in court is that it was preventable. A subsequent public inquiry into how Kerr and his colleague Michael Haslam got away for decades with indecently assaulting and seducing vulnerable patients established that the first complaint against Kerr was in – by a woman patient who reported being told that sex would cure her.
By the Eighties, there had been nearly 30 separate complaints or concerns raised about Kerr’s behaviour, but none was taken sufficiently seriously to prompt a full investigation. When a senior nurse at the Clifton Hospital raised the alarm after learning a patient had had an affair with Kerr, she was demoted.
